Left-wing judge endorses anti-Catholic bigotry

No Establishment here, move along:

Was the San Francisco Board of Supervisors constitutionally justified in passing an explicitly anti-Catholic resolution, adopted March 21, 2006, which labeled the Vatican a “foreign country” whose moral teachings are “hateful,” “insulting and callous,” and “insulting to all San Franciscans”?

In December, U.S. District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel said it was. Last week, the Thomas More Law Center filed a brief with the U. S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights and two Catholic residents of San Francisco appealing Patel’s ruling.

The 2006 resolution, which called on the archbishop to “defy” the Church’s teachings and described Cardinal William Levada, head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, as “unqualified” to lead, was a reaction to the Church’s opposition to adoptions by homosexual couples.

Judge Patel, appointed to the federal bench in 1980 by President Jimmy Carter and former counsel for the National Organization for Women, ruled that the Board of Supervisors’ resolution urging the Catholic archbishop of San Francisco to ignore his Church’s teachings, did not violate the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution. The Establishment Clause, found in the First Amendment, prohibits the government from interfering with the free practice of religion – or favoring one religion over another.

The Thomas More Law Center says the Supervisors’ resolution sends a clear message that Catholics are not welcome as members of the San Francisco political community.

This is one of the most egregious examples of state-sponsored religion bashing and it gets a full endorsement from a Carter appointed Judge. The mainstream media's reaction to this outrage? Chirping crickets.

No, thank YOU, Reade

Reade Seligmann pens a letter thanking bloggers for their role in exposing Mike Nifong's web of lies and deceit:

I have been meaning to write to all of you for quite some time. I want to thank you for your relentless dedication to uncovering the truth and your unwavering commitment to defending the innocent. I also want you all to know how appreciative I am for your concern for our well being and for your diligent dissection of this case.

I have closely followed all of your commentary over the past year and I think that you are extraordinary individuals, not to mention incredibly clever. Tuning into the case-related blogs became a daily ritual for my family and me, especially my mother. Your posts, poems, and videos (thanks Tony S.) were so important to her that she had to learn how to operate the computer all by herself. (follow link for full letter)

The encouragement and compassion we received from the blogs helped us get through some of our darkest times. We were able to seek comfort in the fact that there were people out there interested in hearing the truth—people who were not going to prejudge us because of where we lived, the schools we attended, and the sports that we played. Thankfully, there were people like you who knew better than to view this case through a racial and political lens and chose to focus on the facts, rather than engage in unfounded speculation, to arrive at a decision. You have all done a great thing not only for Collin, David and me, but for the integrity of our legal system.

Thank YOU Reade Seligmann. The dignity you have displayed in your pursuit of justice was and is an inspiration to so many of us in the blogosphere. With the way your have handled yourself through this farce, I know you will be successful in whatever field you pursue.

Sharia holds court in Britain

Stage One of the Subjugation:

MUSLIM radicals have established their own draconian court systems in Britain.

Controversial Sharia courts have been set up in major towns and cities to impose Islamic law and enable Muslims to shun the legitimate British legal system.

Last night religious leaders and politicians expressed outrage that Sharia law is gaining an increasing foothold in our society.

Critics insisted that the Government is allowing a two-tier legal system to flourish in the name of political correctness and that the authority of UK justice is being undermined.

The Daily Express can reveal that one of the controversial courts has been set up in the home town of the 7/7 London bombings ringleader.Mohammed Siddique Khan was responsible for the Edgware Road Circle Line explosion which killed six people and injured 120.

Our investigation has found that the Sharia court system has been set up in the heart of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, and that it is a model for others across the country which are operating outside the British legal process.

Disgusted by Fox News

Watched Fox for a bit tonite. I was disgusted by the chosen guests on the major shows reflecting on the latest Alec Baldwin thang.
Case number one. O'Reilly - brings on Geraldo Rivera, man of four divorces, to discuss Alec Baldwin and parental relations. So informative to hear the four time marital failure lecture on the ethics of 'past wife and child' treatment.

Case number two. Hannity & Janitor guy - bring on Raoul Felder, divorce lawyer of the Rich & Famous, probably the most celebrated lawyer of the contentious severance. Listening to this rat-wanna-be-squirrel talking about, the need for conciliation and agreemenmt for the sake of the child, was like listening to Ted Kennedy pontificate about drunk driving legislation. Sean, your take looks like personal animus and nothing else.

Alec Baldwin is a dirtbag. He is unhinged and has serious anger-management problems. The things he said to his daughter were abhorrent. But the public obsession, and Fox News' obsession, is equally disgusting. Let it go Sean and Bill. Your good programs have been sullied.

He knew dat dayy wazzint gittin duh rite info but he cooodint tell nobudddy:

The Senate's No. 2 Democrat says he knew that the American public was being misled into the Iraq war but remained silent because he was sworn to secrecy as a member of the intelligence committee.

"The information we had in the intelligence committee was not the same information being given to the American people. I couldn't believe it," Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin, Illinois Democrat, said Wednesday when talking on the Senate floor about the run-up to the Iraq war in 2002.

"I was angry about it. [But] frankly, I couldn't do much about it because, in the intelligence committee, we are sworn to secrecy. We can't walk outside the door and say the statement made yesterday by the White House is in direct contradiction to classified information that is being given to this Congress."

Another China/Atheist Tibetan flag controversy

The Chinese ain't showin no love for the Cheesehead, badger-brained residents of Madison, Wisconsin:

China's ruling Communist Party and the largest atheist group in the United States are criticizing a plan to honor the Dalai Lama by flying the Tibetan flag over City Hall during his visit next week to the Wisconsin capital.

A city-county committee is scheduled to vote Thursday night on a request to display the flag during the May 2-4 visit.

Chinese officials made visits earlier this year to local politicians to denounce the Dalai Lama, whom they accuse of trying to separate Tibet from their rule.

"He has been trying hard to deceive public opinion in the world by disguising himself as a champion for democracy and freedom," an official from the Chinese Consulate General's office wrote in a letter asking Mayor Dave Cieslewicz to not fly the "so-called Tibetan flag."

Maybe the Chinese should worry a little less about a flag on a Wisconsin building and a little more about poisoning our food chain.

Ham steak hate crime update

Welcome to the world of the patently absurd:

Ham steak called hate crime

LEWISTON, Maine, April 24 (UPI) -- A ham steak tossed onto a school lunchroom table has a community struggling with what constitutes a hate crime and bruised race relations.

After the April 11 incident in Lewiston Middle School, a public forum held by the city's Sun Journal newspaper had to be halted because of the overt hostility on display.

"A lot of anger and hate has been flying around," said Steve Wessler of the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence, who has received hate e-mail and two threatening phone messages, the newspaper reported Tuesday.

School Superintendent Leon Levesque said last week one student was suspended and more disciplinary action was possible as police investigated the incident in which a white student placed a ham steak in a bag on a lunch table where Somali students were eating. Muslims consider pork a dietary taboo.

"We need to take a look at this and review how a careless act is degrading and causes hurt to other people," Levesque said.

A 14-year-old Somali boy, who was with four other Somali students at the table, said he "felt angered, offended."

Rosie’s Gone. Sad Loss to our Nation

First, let’s be honest here. The nation will suffer no great loss in terms of the level and tenor of political with the absence of America’s Rosebud. We will, at least for a time, be spared her face in the news, the Great ODonnell/Trump feud, her headstands and the disturbing imagery of her trying to get by with the use of only a single square of TP. She is a loathsome woman.

But, personal revulsion aside, losing Rosie in the spotlight is a net loss for conservatives. She had a daily forum through which she could summon every ounce of her inarticulateness, every sinew of her ignorance and every speck of her loutishness. She had the anger of Alec, the ignorance of Babs and the paranoia of Charlie. All in one package. She is the ‘perfect storm’ of everything that is wrong with the left. In that sense, she is irreplaceable.

She will be missed. Come back soon Rosie.

Flashback re: Duke Lacrosse Case, April 22, 2006

Came across this lil gem from Dahlia Lithwick in Slate Magazine where in a waterfall of irony, she tries to take others to task for jumping the gun before more was known about the facts of the case. In the very same article, she very nimbly, jumps the gun before more was known about the facts of the case:

This wasn't a date gone wrong. At the margins, this case may be about sex and race and power. But it's not about subtle social messages or identity-based misunderstandings. It's about an assault.

Also, there is evidence here: Mounds and mounds of significant physical evidence. There is a rape kit. There are bruises, and then, apparently, more bruises. There are DNA tests and broken fingernails and witnesses seemingly tumbling out of the woodwork. There are time stamped photographic accounts of much of the evening. This is not a classic "he says/she says." The evidence has something to say to us as well.

Perhaps we should be thankful that this is not a case about ESP as much as it's case about CSI.

Contrast this with AG Cooper's April 12th statement:

The eyewitness identification procedures were faulty and unreliable. No DNA confirms the accuser's story. No other witness confirms her story. Other evidence contradicts her story. She contradicts herself. Next week, we'll be providing a written summary of the important factual findings and some of the specific contradictions that have led us to the conclusion that no attack occurred.

In this case, with the weight of the state behind him, the Durham district attorney pushed forward unchecked. There were many points in the case where caution would have served justice better than bravado. And in the rush to condemn, a community and a state lost the ability to see clearly. Regardless of the reasons this case was pushed forward, the result was wrong. Today, we need to learn from this and keep it from happening again to anybody.

Solomon Burnette sounds a call to arms

Solomon Burnette, thug, racist punk and University of North Carolina Association of Governments Vice Chair announces a call to violence in his newly created Get Whitey Movement.

History has shown us that the (in)justice system cannot and will not address these issues because it is built upon them. So upon whose shoulders should the responsibility of retributive correction fall?

White people still murder us with impunity. White people still beat us with impunity. White people still rape us and get away with it.

The only deterrent to these legally, socially and economically validated supremacist actions is the fear of physical retribution.

Black men, stand up. Black women, stand up. Black children, stand up. We have been at war here with these same white people for 500 years.

The time to fight, whether intellectually, artistically or physically, has always been now.

Fascist America, in 10 easy steps

Possibly the lamest piece of drivel yet written about America and the impending 'fascist state'. I think step number 4 is the richest. Apparently America has developed a brownshirt 'thug caste' because they hired some private security guards during the Katrina emergency. Of course Guantanamo is the new Gulag Archipelago. America is compared to just about every tyrannical regime of the 20th century.

John Kerry Truther?

Ace of Spades is highlighting a vid of John Kerry's deliberate ignorance of the 'truther movement'. What diplomacy. He has never heard of the notion that Number 7 was deliberately blown up. YES, he says it WAS deliberately blown up. I dont think of Kerry as a sharp man. But he says with definite purpose that it was a deliberate destruction. He could be confused. It is not the first time. But if he believes what he implies, he should be making a MAJOR STINK. But he doesnt.
Raise the issue. But dont pursue. JFK.

Another Border Patrol Agent Charged

Border Patrol agent charged in killing of Mexican man
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PHOENIX -- A Border Patrol agent was charged Monday with first-degree murder for shooting an illegal immigrant during a confrontation on the border in January.

An investigation found that Agent Nicholas Corbett's killing of Francisco Dominguez-Rivera, of Puebla, Mexico, was not legally justified, said Cochise County's top prosecutor, Ed Rheinheimer.

Corbett was named in a criminal complaint that also charges him with second-degree murder, manslaughter and negligent homicide. Rheinheimer said that a judge will determine during a preliminary hearing which of the charges is best supported by the evidence.
Skeptical?

Of course. I hope this agent gets a chance. Unlike many others.

Remember the Holocaust

Those words are said all too often. I have Hungarian/gypsy blood in me. My anscestors, for whatever reason, were wholsale enemies of the Nazis. Apparently, like the Jews, Poles, gays, etc., they posed some horrible threat. So, it was necessary that they be extinguished.

Some would call it self flagellation, but I felt it necessary to once again view Holocaust pictures. Their legacy deserves it. Humanity requires it. Our ancestors, in the least, deserve the remembrance.

And not to polticize it, but maybe when you look at these pictures, you will remember that President Bush is not a fascist, and he is certainly not comparable to Hitler. Guantanamo is not Auschwitz. Our troops are not the Gestapo. Please, buy a book. It is a shame that there are so many who are so ignorant of history to make such a comparison..

MSNBC's Vilest Metaphor

Newsbusters reports on a disgusting analogy between partial-birth abortion and Republican politics:

When Republican strategist Michelle Laxalt tried to describe the clinical reality of partial-birth abortion on MSNBC this morning at about 10:55 AM EDT, MSNBC host Chris Jansing [file photo] cut her off, saying she didn't want to get into an "emotional debate." By all means. Let's not confuse people with the facts. Better to focus on the antiseptic "right to choose" without letting the gruesome reality of the matter intrude.

In partial birth birth abortion, the near-term baby's skull is collapsed and its brains are sucked out. Immediately after stopping Laxalt just as she was about to state that, Jansing herself said that the GOP might welcome the debate on the partial birth abortion issue "after Iraq and some of the other things that have gone on at the White House that have sort of sucked the life out of the Republican party."

Could Jansing possibly have been in much worse taste?

Get your head out of the back alley.

Ominous signs from the EU

British bloggers said yesterday that free speech on the internet is under threat from draconian new laws, which could see them jailed for up to three years.

Europe's justice ministers have agreed genocide denial and race hatred legislation that will outlaw remarks on the internet "carried out in a manner likely to incite violence or hatred".

The measures are contained in the European Union's Racism and Xenophobia Directive and could hit controversial European bloggers, even if their websites are hosted in America.

Chris Mounsey, the 29 year old behind The Devil's Kitchen blog, said: "There is potential for this to have worldwide application. Free speech is at the centre of blogging. Part of the reason bloggers can tell the truth is because it is difficult to pin them down. This law tries to do it."

The legislation goes beyond German or Austrian-style bans on denial of the Holocaust to cover those people who question the official history of recent conflicts in Africa and the Balkans.

The directive is set to enter British law before 2010. David Davis, the shadow home secretary, said: "We don't need yet more law to combat racial hatred and incitement to violence. We already have British law dating back to 1861."

Is Orwell doing a round off back handspring in his casket? This is priceless - "those who question the official history". Who wrote the official history?

The WRONG way to deal with Holocaust denial

EU adopts measure outlawing Holocaust denial

I am repulsed by and abhor those who deny the Holocaust. It is one of the most pernicious and evil policies of this century, perhaps in all of history. But the great thing about this country, is that Holocaust deniers get silenced. Not by government action, but by facts. When deniers talk, their voices are drowned out. I am not talking about a particular lecture or speech, but in general. We know what they say is untrue, because we see it and hear it. And by facts I mean accounts, pictures, relics and so many other things our citizens provide.

But there are Holocaust deniers in the US. For the most part they have been marginalized. That is how they should be treated. Fair minded people know they are wrong. We have the overwhelming evidence they are wrong, so we capably counter their wack job theories and denials.

But now the EU wants to criminalize the whole notion of Holocaust denial. You don't kill any idea by banning it. You kill an idea by proving it wrong. You kill an idea by undermining the logic which supports it.

So people now have to hope that Big Brother EU doesn't find their ideas to be offensive. They have done an admirable job in picking the most horrific of world views. I hope they step back and stop choosing. In the 1920's and 30's capitalism could have been viewed as a similar evil. And those advocating free market ideas could have been subject to criminal penalties. But que sera....

Now Europe is fostering the whole idea of fascist anti-Semitism. Not by exploring it, which is what a thing people would do, but by BANNING IT, because THAT makes them look tough.

It is inviting weakness by declaring toughness. I think it is the worst kind of weakness an enemy could detect.

Illegal Immigrant Privilege

Let's give illegal immigrants priority over out-of-state residents. Should the rights of illegal immigrants trump the rights of those of who live in a neighboring state? Common sense is escaping me..... How should I think?
BOSTON -- Setting the stage for a new fight over the rights of illegal immigrants in Massachusetts, the state Board of Higher Education looked at whether illegal immigrant students should be entitled to in-state tuition rates if they go to a state university.

NewsCenter 5's Amalia Barreda reported that the Massachusetts Taxpayers Association said between 400 and 600 illegal immigrants would go on to higher learning if the Legislature approved a bill making them eligible for in-state tuition at state schools.

With the escalating cost of higher education, would it be more afforadable to fly to Mexico, petition our southern friend for national status, skate across the border into Mass and then apply for in-state tuition? Justs askin.

Vile Snark on Fred Thompson from Dana Milbank

I don't know if this is supposed to be an opinion piece or a legit job of reporting. But apparently Dana "Skull and Bones" Milbank has it in for Fred Thompson. How about this characterization of FDT's meeting with Congressional Republicans:

Actually, Thompson looked old and sallow as he faced the cameras for a few seconds before hopping into a waiting GMC Envoy. But his hour-long meeting was well staged. Five television cameras rolled and a mob of 50 journalists and tourists watched his arrival and departure, crushing tulips and pansies outside the Capitol Hill Club.

Dang flower hating Republicans. He shows just as much love for the rest of the Republican field:

It's been a difficult few weeks for the GOP field. Mitt Romney misfired by describing himself as a "lifelong hunter" when, in fact, he never had a license and only occasionally took shots at "varmints." John McCain has self-destructed over his championing of the Iraq war. Rudy Giuliani has had more Bernard Kerik problems. And Tommy Thompson, a new entrant, quickly disqualified himself by telling a Jewish group this week that making money is "part of the Jewish tradition."

Among potential top-tier candidates, that leaves Newt Gingrich (who has more baggage than a bellhop) and Fred Thompson.

Mr Thompson goes to Washington

and
Woos smitten Congressmen

WASHINGTON - The welcome for Fred Thompson wasn't just warm, it was effusive.
The former Tennessee senator and actor is still weighing whether to run for the GOP presidential nomination but House Republicans who met with him Wednesday gushed over the prospects of Thompson candidacy.

They called him presidential, a leader, a proven conservative, an exciting prospect and "a breath of fresh air."

"I wanted to come over and see some of my old friends and make some new friends and tell them what was on my mind and listen and to see what was on their minds," Thompson said in a brief statement to reporters camped outside the Capitol Hill Club.

Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (news, bio, voting record), R-Ga., said: "there was a breath of fresh air in the room today," while Rep. Steve Buyer (news, bio, voting record), R-Ind., added: "he spoke as though he was a president." Rep. David Davis (news, bio, voting record), R-Tenn., said people are looking for a candidate with a proven conservative voting record and "Fred Thompson's the man."

Even those congressmen who wouldn't yet commit offered praise.

"Very impressive," said Rep. Adam Putnam (news, bio, voting record), R-Fla. "He has the charisma and the fortitude to lead our nation at what is a very difficult time." And Rep. Walter Jones (news, bio, voting record), R-N.C., called Thompson a straight shooter, and said: "I'm looking for somebody that can excite America again

EU Official Criticizes U.S.-Mexico Wall

MEXICO CITY (AP) - European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana on Tuesday criticized U.S. plans to extend barriers along its border with Mexico, saying immigrants should not be treated like criminals.

"A wall that separates one country from another is not something that I like or that the European Union members like," Solana said at a news conference in Mexico City. "We don't think walls are reasonable instruments to stop people from crossing into a country."
The EU believes immigrants should be treated "like people, not like criminals," he said.

Cal Thomas on Fred Thompson

You know I agree, waddya think:

If Fred Thompson's not running, he should

Published: Tuesday, April 17, 2007
By Cal Thomas

Ihave no idea whether Fred Thompson, former senator from Tennessee, will run for the Republican nomination for president, but he should.

He has Ronald Reagan's communication skills and speaks plainly in ways most people can understand. Anyone who has listened to him substitute for Paul Harvey on ABC News Radio senses that, in this, he follows in Reagan's footsteps. Radio is an intimate medium. People who are able to connect with a radio audience often can connect on TV and in person. Thompson, the actor, plays other people. On radio and in news interviews, he "plays" himself.

Thompson conveys Middle American, common sense values. When he is asked a question, he doesn't sound as if he's giving a poll-tested pabulum answer. Agree or not, his statements spring from conviction

Written Vignettes of the Virginia Tech Victims

So worthy of our remembrance.

Wonkette's Hypocrisy

Lisa de Pasquale, writing for Human Events, calls Ana Marie Cox, of Wonkette fame, to task for the double standards she exhibits in regards to Don Imus. On the one hand, she is so sel-righteously appalled by the boorish behavior of Imus and his cohorts:

“As the invites kept coming, I found myself succumbing to the clubhouse mentality that Imus both inspires and cultivates. Sure, I cringed at his and his crew's race-baiting (the Ray Nagin impersonations, the Obama jokes) and at the casual locker-room misogyny (Hillary Clinton's a ‘b****,’ CNN news anchor Paula Zahn is a ‘wrinkled old prune’), but I told myself that going on the show meant something beyond inflating my precious ego.”

Oh what an epiphanic moment it must have been for her. She had been so mercilessly seduced by the Cult of Imus, and now she was free. She was out of the gutter slinging mud with the boys.

De Pasquale reminds us of how much Cox feels at home in a mud pit:

Conservative women like Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Katherine Harris and Michele Bachman have been insulted in the same vein by Wonkette. A picture of Ann Coulter speaking is captioned on Wonkette.com, “Nothin’ but Diet Coke, nicotine, and blow in her system.” A Wonkette “operative” asks if Michelle Malkin will be doing a sexual trick on her videoblog. Katherine Harris’s physical attributes (her “eyes” as Imus calls them) are discussed and she is called a “street whore.”

On the President, Wonkette writes, “We didn't accuse George Bush of being gay because he holds his hand in a ‘nelly way.’ We accused him of being gay because he likes ****.” And I’m supposed to believe this woman blushed when a couple old guys complimented her looks?

Newsweek does its 'Shock Jock' Hall of Fame

Now on the heels of the Imus controversy, we have Newsweek waging war against the 'shock jocks', with their own rogue's gallery to go with.

Of course Imus is numero uno because of his nappy headed comment.

Number 2?

Of course it is, Rush (can't link to image/story, but the following is how it reads.)

Off His Meds?: Rush Limbaugh, waiting to tee off at Pebble Beach a few years ago, would land in the rough in 2006 for claiming that Michael J. Fox looked like he was exaggerating the effects of his Parkinson's disease. The actor appeared in political ads, visibly unable to control his swaying and shaking, to voice his support for candidates who favor stem cell research. 'He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act,' said Limbaugh.

He would apologize later in the day, but couldn't resist adding 'Michael J. Fox is allowing his illness to be exploited and in the process is shilling for a Democratic politician.'

They offer you a picture of Rush which makes him look like as vile and insensitive a scumtard the caption likens him to be. Shocker. Go on and on. It is all about the 'horrible' things conservatives say.

Please view the entire piece from Newsweek. This is not about singling out 'shock jocks' in radio. It is about taking conservative radio personalities off of the air.

'Shock jock' is an ineffable term. In my limited intellectual capabilities, it defies me to give it a definition. But it SHOULD NOT redefine and marginalize a person's voice or a movement's voice, by calling it hate, or any of the ism's so often used.

The same goes true for these radio personalities, when I agree with them, or when I don't agree with them, let their voices stand.

This is...

SPARTA, or Anchorman. You decide. hilarious, though.

Thompson considered the strongest potential candidate

My instincts tell me this is a given, but it is nice to see it on paper:

The National Journal asked its group of political insiders which potential candidates, if any, will emerge as a strong contender for president.

The Democrats gave the following responses:

Fred Thompson: 46% *Al Gore: 24% Newt Gingrich: 12 %Michael Bloomberg: 11% Chuck Hagel: 8% None of the above: 29%

On the Republican side:

Fred Thompson: 43% Al Gore: 21% Newt Gingrich: 15% Michael Bloomberg: 11% Chuck Hagel: 4% None of the above: 35%

Nice to see on the Repub side, but are the Dems starting to take notice?

But notions of FDT's viability as a candidate are still raised. And the conclusion is - YES.

Nancy Grace - 'if you ignore something long enough...

... it will probably go away.' It aint that easy, Blondestuff.

Nancy Grace, former prosecutor and host of CNN's throughly unwatchable law & order/gossip show, had been particularly vitriolic in her support of Crystal Gail Mangum, the never-was-a-victim in the Duke rape case. Her presumption of guilt was evident in her first reports about the case. She turned attacking the 'white, privileged' Dukies into a personal crusade.

I won't provide quotes. I'll leave that to a better blogger. KC Johnson owns her here. (Im in ur showz, spunkin ur lies).

As Nifong's brittle case began to crumble, I noticed her reports because became less and less frequent. Hmmm. I decided to do a little documenting of the curiously absent Ms. Grace.
Here are the most significant events that have happened in the case over the last few months and how Graceless covered it based on CNN transcripts:

Dec. 15 - Director of a DNA lab testifies that, in an agreement with Nifong, he omitted from a report that genetic material from several men - none of them team members - was found in accuser's underwear and body. Nancy Grace ignores the story. Devotes almost an entire hour to the case of a man who put his son in a clothes dryer as punishment.

Dec. 22 - Nifong drops the rape charges, saying the woman is no longer certain whether she was penetrated. The players still face charges of kidnapping and sexual offense. Story receives extensive coverage. Nancy overwhelmed by nail polish fumes at pedicurist. Calls in sick. Jane Velez-Mitchell hosts.

Dec. 28 - North Carolina bar files ethics charges against Nifong, accusing him of making misleading and inflammatory comments to the media about the athletes. (He is also later accused of withholding evidence and lying to the court.) Nancy shows up, but ignores the story. Her coverage is devoted to the father of Anna Nicole's baby.

Jan. 3, 2007 - Duke invites Seligmann and Finnerty to return to school. (They have not returned.) The accuser gives birth. Both sides later say she was not impregnated at the party. Nancy shows up, ignores stories.

Jan. 12 & 13 - Nifong asks to withdraw from case because of ethics charges. North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper takes over the case. Nancy shows up, ignores story. It does get mentioned by the anchor who did the mid-show news report. I thought this story was so important, I also checked the following show, Jan. 15, only to learn, she again ignored the story.

April 11 - Cooper drops all charges, accusing Nifong of overreaching. Nancy has brazilian wax appointment. Jane Velez-Mitchell hosts.

Nancy Grace's fresh new take on the Dule lacrosse case

Losing My Religion

When renouncing terrorism becomes...

too controversial.

Stanford University, renowned as a global hub of intellectual freedom, says it will bar the public from attending a panel discussion Monday night because one of the speakers is "controversial."

The speaker, who goes by the name Walid Shoebat, has been making the rounds on the nation's lecture circuit claiming to be a former Palestinian terrorist-turned-Israeli-sympathizer.

The Stanford College Republicans, a student group, invited Shoebat and two companions who bill themselves as the "3 Ex-Terrorists." They made the invitation as a favor to another group, Students for an Open Society, which lacks the official standing needed to invite speakers to campus.
*****
By contrast, the public was welcome to attend an event with the controversial DePaul University Professor Norm Finkelstein, who accuses Jews of using the Holocaust to gain sympathy, said Jessica Chernick of Students for an Open Society.

FDT - charged and ready

WASHINGTON - After disclosing Wednesday that he has lymphatic cancer, former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson, perhaps best known for his TV role as District Attorney Arthur Branch on NBC's "Law and Order," is accelerating his schedule of public appearances. Advisors say this reflects his growing seriousness about entering the race for the White House.

On Friday morning Thompson is scheduled to attend the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington. He will be there with his wife Jeri at the Washington Hilton's ballroom event. President Bush will be there to make remarks.

A Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll released Wednesday indicates Thompson, who has yet to announce his candidacy, has risen to #2, ahead of Arizona Senator John McCain.

Cultural clashes involving Islam have recently made headlines in Minnesota. At the airport, some Muslim taxi drivers refuse to transport passengers carrying alcohol; at Target stores, some Muslim cashiers won't scan pork products. Now there's a new point of friction: Minneapolis Community and Technical College.
Its officials say the college, a public institution, has a strict policy of not promoting religion or favoring one religion over another. "The Constitution prevents us from doing this in any form," says Dianna Cusick, director of legal affairs.

But that seems to depend on your religion.

Where Christianity is concerned, the college goes to great lengths to avoid any hint of what the courts call "entanglement" or support of the church. Yet the college is planning to install facilities for Muslims to use in preparing for daily prayers, an apparent first at a public institution in Minnesota.

Mike Nifong - The New York Times Interview

Thought I'd repost a Nifong parody article back I penned back in January.

I thought it might be apropos to republish this prophetic, lil piece as the Nifong undoing - gets done.

A little mind exercise:

Mike Nifong – Ten Years Hence - special to the New York Times

Mike Nifong, the former Durham County, North Carolina District Attorney, garnered much attention in 2006 for his prosecution of three white, affluent, Duke lacrosse players, David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann, for the rape of an African-American, exotic dancer at an alcohol infused lacrosse party. The case had all of the elements of a rape turned political drama – race, class, female victimization, which assured every new development in the case front-page headlines. The contentiousness of the issue was fueled by overzealous bloggers hoping to expand their readerships with inflammatory, and quite often, racist statements.

Much has changed in the life of Mike Nifong since his days as the feisty, well-liked prosecutor. He no longer practices law. Black marks on his record from the Federal and State investigations into his prosecutorial conduct have probably prevented him from ever practicing law again. While he has petitioned to become a member of the New Hampshire Bar, his love of the law is now a jaded fantasy. “I was only trying do justice”, he states. Many years of civil litigation have also taken a toll on his finances. The four million dollar verdict in favor of the Duke defendants had cost Nifong his home, his career and his family. His wife Cy left him in May of 2007, just a month after the Duke case was dismissed by the state's Attorney General. While the divorce papers cite “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce, insiders say differently. “Cy never liked what Mike was doing. She always urged him to drop the charges. She always thought the family could make a nice life for themselves in Durham, even if he wasn’t the D.A.”, said a source close to Cy.

Mike has moved on to different pastures. He had a brief stint of self-destructiveness following the vindication of the Duke defendants. He was convicted of driving under the influence, petty drug offenses and a misdemeanor sexual molestation offense, but he puts those far behind him. “I was depressed because I was only trying to do justice for that poor, young, African-American girl. My investigator told me that he thought she was serious about the rape. And I never, never fondled that girl at the Tithole”.

Mike is more content now. He lives in a tiny, yet modest one bedroom-home just outside of Lebanon New Hampshire, where he moved just after the Syrian Wars. “I needed peace and solitude. I felt like I went through my own war – for justice”, he reflects with a determined sense of animosity. He received a modest inheritance from a relative which helps him provide for his necessities, but he has taken up a new occupation, far a field from the hostile, bickering courtroom.

Beekeeping has become his new career, profession, occupation and passion. He talks now of an orphaned hive as fervently as he once did of a guilty defendant, although now there is much less pomp and circumstance to his declarations. Still, one gets an impression of his good naturedness and passion as he sells his honey jars on Meriden Road in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Michael Nifong is a poor and beaten man we might be able to learn from.

-P.S. Sorry Beekeepers. (ed.)

DISMISSED

AG drops all criminal charges against Duke 3

AG's Nifong smackdown:

- saying the athletes were innocent victims of a "tragic rush to accuse" by an overreaching district attorney
- "There were many points in the case where caution would have served justice better than bravado,"
- his own investigation concluded not only that the evidence against the young men was insufficient, but that no attack took place
- But the attorney general said the eyewitness identification procedures were unreliable, no DNA supported the woman's story, no other witness corroborated it, and the woman contradicted herself.
- "Based on the significant inconsistencies between the evidence and the various accounts given by the accusing witness, we believe these three individuals are innocent of these charges," Cooper said.
- He said the charges resulted from a "tragic rush to accuse and a failure to verify serious allegations."
- "This case shows the enormous consequences of overreaching by a prosecutor," he said.

The AG even spoke of enacting a mechanism to reign in rogue prosecutors. No charges to be sought against Crystal Gail Mangum. Except for that, this was a slam dunk for Duke 3 supporters.

I just knew some really, really ignorant Duke faculty member was going to make me physically ill before the days end. Really really ignorant Duke biology professor Sheryl Broverman obliges:

"Since we haven't gone through a normal legal process, we don't know what really happened," said Duke biology professor Sheryl Broverman. "The fact the charges were dropped doesn't mean nothing happened. It just means information wasn't collected appropriately enough to go forward."

Hey Simp, the 'normal legal process' means that when you have nary a shred of evidence suggesting guilt, and have a ton of evidence suggesting innocence, you don't prosecute. Listen to what the AG said - THEY ARE INNOCENT!

New York Times and the Republican meltdown

In its attempt to paint the direst of scenarios for Republicans in '08, the New York Times interviews moderate Repubs and turns the doom and gloom knob up to 11.

WASHINGTON, April 10 — Republican leaders across the country say they are growing increasingly anxious about their party’s chances of holding the White House, citing public dissatisfaction with President Bush, the political fallout from the war in Iraq and the problems their leading presidential candidates are having generating enthusiasm among conservative voters.

Some other snippets:

-"party leaders expressed worry"
-"signs of despondency among party members"
-“My level of concern and dismay is very, very high,” said Mickey Edwards.
-"I just don’t know how they can run hard enough or fast enough to escape the gravitational pull of the Bush administration"
-“We don’t have any candidates in the field now who are compelling,” Mr. Edwards said, adding: “It’s going to be a tough year for us.”
-"The Republicans made their comments a day before Senator John McCain of Arizona, once the party’s presumed front-runner, is to give a speech intended to revitalize his troubled candidacy.
-evidence of Republican despair
-"“I would say a lot of people are not turned on because they don’t see a lot of bright spots out there,”
-widespread apprehension
-“Right now, our enemy is ourselves.”
-notes of optimism did not erase the overall anxiety pervading the interviews
-“It’s a dying administration,” Mr. Steele said. “There’s a fatigue factor and there’s a rubbing-off when it’s not very smart to be closely associated with such low ratings.”
-Republican malaise

Funny, Adam Nagourney, one of the authors of the piece, was accused of bein all doomy and gloomy on Dems in '04.

Grim Reminder Alert

No, it wasn't the 4,00th American death in Iraq. It is the anniversary of a monumental victory in the Iraq War, the fall of Baghdad:

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issue the following statement on the fourth anniversary of the fall of Baghdad:

“Today’s anniversary is another grim reminder of the Bush Administration’s tragically incompetent conduct of the war in Iraq. Four years after the fall of Baghdad, the war that was supposed to be a ‘cakewalk’ has disintegrated into a civil war with our brave men and women in uniform stuck in the middle. Americans now know that President Bush and his Republican allies did not have a clear plan when they misled our nation into this war, nor do they have a clear plan to get our troops out of it. They sent our soldiers into battle without proper body armor, equipment or training, and forced our wounded heroes to recover in disgraceful conditions at Walter Reed and other veterans' hospitals across the country.

Border Patrol Agents Under Attack
Violence Against Agents In Yuma, Ariz. Up To 154 In First Six Months Of Fiscal Year

(CBS) Along the desert stretch where Arizona and Mexico meet, there's more flying in the air than just dust. There are rocks flying back and forth toward the border agents, CBS News correspondent Kelly Cobiella reports.

It's part of a nightly bombardment of Border Patrol vehicles and agents all along the southwestern border.

Chris Van Wagenen, a senior patrol agent, says "it's mostly going to be smugglers, guides, gangbangers basically. People who make money off of this. "This" means smuggling people and drugs into the U.S. It's gotten a lot harder to cross the border, and smugglers are reacting to more fences and more agents with more violence.

"They believe, almost like a terrorist, 'we're going to intimidate you and hurt you until you back off,'" Van Wagenen says.

Assaults against agents in the Yuma sector have shot up to 126 in the first six months of this fiscal year. That's approaching the number of assaults all last year.

Forget the soldiers

I have found a new hero fighting for our freedoms:

To the editor,
Radical Christian fundamentalists are not preaching peace and understanding. I am disturbed by the March 31 letter that claims America is at "world wide war" with Muslims. Our own homegrown fundamentalist Christians are behaving as warmongers who believe in a "clash of civilizations." They do not want to assimilate into America's multicultural melting pot. Radical fundamentalist Christians believe that this "war" will not stop with dialogue, only with one side being defeated. They will not be satisfied until the entire world is one big "Christian" theocracy.

Right now, here in America, fundamentalist Christian pharmacists are refusing to sell contraceptives to women. Right now, they are luring pregnant women into fake medical clinics and giving them false information about their own bodies. Right now, Christo-fascists are bombing abortion clinics and shooting doctors. Right now, fundamentalist Christians are fighting to take evolutionary science out of our schools and replace it with superstition. Right now, fundamentalist Christians are working to take away rights from gay people in America, even going so far as to fight against anti-bullying policies designed to protect gay children in our schools from harassment and violence. Some of these things are going on right here in Flagstaff!

I will continue to work to stop the fundamentalist Christians and preserve our cherished way of life for the sake of our children and grandchildren. However, I'm not going to call it a "war" or use violence to achieve my ends. If religion does not promote peace, it means nothing.

-LISA RAYNER

I feel safe now.

Another example of liberal intolerance

Just saw a report on the local NYC news. The New York University College Republicans held an immigration forum tonight. They invited speakers representative of both sides of the debate. When the pro-illegal immigration speakers spoke, the CR's patiently sat through the arguments with nary a peep. Of course when Chris Simcox of the Minutemen spoke, the intolerant liberal turds, stood up, turned their backs and tried to shout him down. What a shocker. I am sure the video will surface on the internet soon.

Fatwa for a hug?

Well, I guess if cartoons mean riots, a hug is at least worth a fatwa:

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Islamic clerics at a radical mosque in Pakistan's capital have demanded the minister for tourism be fired, after she was pictured committing a "great sin" by hugging a foreign man.

Minister for Tourism Nilofar Bakhtiar on Monday rejected the Taliban-style edict against her by clerics at Islamabad's Red Mosque, who last week set up their own court to deliver Islamic justice.

Photos carried in the Pakistani press showed Bakhtiar, helped by a male instructor during a charity parachute jump she made in France last month to raise money for victims of the massive earthquake that hit Pakistan in October 2005. Another picture shows a woman — apparently Bakhtiar — hugging the instructor.

On Sunday, two clerics at the mosque's Darul Afta or Department of Edicts issued a fatwa, or edict, that this was "an illegitimate and forbidden act."

"Without any doubt, she has committed a great sin," a copy of the fatwa seen by The Associated Press said. It declared that Muslim women must stay at home and must not venture out uncovered.

The fatwa demanded that Bakhtiar be sacked, given some other unspecified punishment and that her family should "force her to ask for forgiveness so that she does not repeat this un-Islamic act."

Behavior at Love Field refocus FBI attention on women

By REBECCA LOPEZ / WFAA-TV

DALLAS - With one already considered 'dangerous' by the United States government, two women became the center of more critical attention after their alleged actions at Dallas Love Field caught the interest of the FBI and Dallas Police Department.

Sources said in February, Kimberly "Asma" Al-Homsi, 42, and Aisha Abdul-Rahman Hamad, 50, allegedly scoped out Dallas Love Field in a manner classic of surveying an area.

Al-Homsi was already under surveillance and is on the government's no fly list since being involved in a road rage incident back in December of 2005. Officials said during the incident she held up an inert grenade and threatened another driver. Garland's bomb squad reported they later found ammunition in her car.

"I saw a car parked along this fence here; and there was a young lady sitting looking through the fence at the control tower in that vicinity using binoculars," he said.

Hamilton, who heads the Frontiers of Flight Museum, said police told him previously to be on the lookout for two suspicious women wearing fatigues and scouting runways.

"When she got off the car, I noticed that she did have fatigues on and matched the description of what police had mentioned to us a week or so before," he said.

Sources told News 8 the women were not only spotted outside the airport, but they were also seen inside the terminal pacing distances in what they said appeared to be typical surveillance techniques. However, the women said they were simply going to the flight museum and then watching planes take off. They deny they were surveying the airport.

"There were a lot of people parked outside," Hamad said. "One man was taking pictures of planes taking off."

As the women were driving away from the airport in a red Honda, an officer pulled them over. Police issued one of the women a citation for failing to change her address on her driver's license and having no front license plate.

Elsie McLean, 102, oldest golfer to ace hole

CHICO, Calif. It's quite an accomplishment just to still be playing golf at age 102, but making a hole-in-one is beyond special.

And for Californian Elsie McLean, it also means a shot on the "Tonight" show with Jay Leno April 24th.

McLean is the oldest golfer ever to make a hole-in-one on a regulation course, surpassing a 2001 ace by a 101-year-old man in Florida.

A nice, quick read.

George Will spends an entire column to say..

that non-candidate Fred Thompson, the "political flavor du jour", was wrong on McCain/Feingold. What conservative disagrees? I don't. But why devote an entire column to a single position of a non-candidate? Will is too young, too smart and too skinny to be officially labelled 'curmudgeon'. Why is he lobbying for the title now? Maybe he should suggest a viable candidate, better able to accept the Ronald Reagan mantle.

In a revolting apologia, the authors of the following piece attribute Hispanic's disproportionately high rate of DUI's on, of course, loneliness. Pathetic.

Hispanic DWIs rooted in immigrants' culture
Lifestyle, isolation figure in driving drunk
***
Car accidents are the top killer of Hispanics in North Carolina, and the disproportionate number of alcohol-related arrests and wrecks are an embarrassment to a minority already beleaguered by hard feelings over illegal immigration.
***
Hispanic leaders are struggling to stem a problem that they say is rooted in the waves of young men who leave the calming influences of church and family to labor alone in a new country.

"It's difficult because you're trying to compete with the loneliness," said Tony Asion, public safety director for El Pueblo, an Hispanic advocacy group. "Then, as some learn, more come, and we start again."

Fred continues on his Shermanesque march towards the Presidency (apologies to my numerous Georgian friends). In just a couple of months and without even having announced his candidacy, Thompson has become the conservative of choice in the blogosphere. He is craftily using the internet and radio to launch a campaign without the need to announce.

McCain is all but done. He has deliberately ignored the conservative base. Romney's has a tremendous war chest but money doesn't buy gravitas, nor can it erase his tortured positions and inconsistent voting record. Rudy is popular but sinking. And he has more baggage than Thurston and Lovey brought on the Minnow. Run Fred, run.
