Mass shooting have happened around the world, even in countries with strict gun laws. In the UK I remember the Dunblane Massacre that killed 18 people, and the Hungerford Massacre that killed 17 people. In Australia I remember the Port Arthur Massacre that killed 35 people! In Germany I remember the Erfurt Massacre that killed 17 people. In Switzerland I remember the Zug Massacre where 15 people died. In Canada I remember the Ecole Polytechnique Massacre that killed 15 people. My main point is that if a person is hellbent on murder and mayhem they will get their hands on a gun no matter how strict the gun laws are. Criminals by definition do not obey gun laws!

Agreed, I do not believe that Europeons understand that our second admendment right to bear arms is to protect us more from our government than from one another. Imagine the world today if the peasants of the Soviet Union and Jews of Germany enjoyed these protections in the 1930's. Our murder rate is a sad but necessary result of this right.
Also as an alien, the shooter did not enjoy a legal right to gun ownership. Hopefully they will find out who illegally sold him his weapon
